Parent stress study underway
The Arc of Tempe has been asked to pass on to parents a survey being conducted at Indiana University, Bloomington, IN, regarding the stress associated with caring for a child or adult with developmental disabilities, and how parents cope with this stress.
Those who complete the survey may opt to enter a drawing for one of 30 $50 Target gift cards. No names or personal information are required to complete this survey, however, an email address will be requested in order to enter the drawing.
It is hoped that the results of the study will help agencies determine families at greater risk; provide recommendations for other parents in coping with stress; and aid agencies in developing programs and resources to help parents cope with stress.
The Arc of Tempe has been promised a copy of the study results.

To qualify for the survey, individuals must be at least 18 years of age and the parent of at least one minor or adult child who has been diagnosed with developmental disabilities.

DDD Budget Cuts affect state-only recipients

The Division of Developmental Disabilities terminated some home and community based services paid entirely with state funds on May 31, 2010.

The announcement of these cuts in services, along with templates of the division’s letter to consumers and providers, and a list of resources, can be found on the DDD Home Page. Also included on the site are steps to take if you were affected by these cuts and do not agree with the decision.

As a reminder, the Division’s call center is (602) 364-1379, or for those who are able to leave a message and need a toll free service, that line is (866) 229-5553.  Individuals can also email questions by writing to DDDHotline@azdes.gov.
